ENCOURAGEMENT TO ETERNAL FOCUS IN UNITY AND FELLOWSHIP OF THE GOSPEL

Genesis 1:27 reads: "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."  Where did the dual sex come from?  Why did God create two sexes?  It seems that on a superficial level a creation of asexual creatures would create less problems.

Opinion: I think "in the image of God" refers to several things: 1)the creation of a being the Eternal God could procreate (i.e. Holy Spirit with Mary) for the creation of His Son in the likeness of "sinful flesh." Jesus as God and man (sinless in His choices during all temptation to follow "self" outside God the Father's Divine will) was thus eligible to take the payment of sin for us on the cross. Up until this great need created by the introduction of sin there was no need for God to procreate Himself. As the result God in good stewardship has by grace, love and redemption created many "children of God" by "adoption" through Jesus Christ. 2) Man like God is a trinity. No other creature has this special "spirit breath of life" other than man. All other creatures after fulfilling their purpose simply return to dust (i.e. plants, bacteria, fungi, animals). This spirit life from God the Father gave man eternal existence (distinguished from "eternal life" which is fellowship in the presence of God the Father forever) 3) Man was designed to "rule" the material creation. Man was to bring order to disorder. The creation was under the "bondage to decay" or second law of thermodynamics as separated for God the Father.

Genesis 1:26-28
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every  living creature that moves on the ground." NIV

Genesis 2:7

7 the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. NIV

Romans 8:3
....God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. NIV

2 Corinthians 5:21
21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. NIV

The creation was separated from God the Father as an innocent victim of Lucifer's choice in that Lucifer was cast to the earth (material creation). That is why it groans as a woman in labor for the day of the presentation of the Son's of God. In that day the material creation will return to the Light of God the Father no longer burning itself for energy of life [i.e. suns burning billions of tons of hydrogen a second to produce light, man burning carbon chains from destruction of other forms of life (i.e. food) in the biochemical reactions of the Krebs cycle and other pathways to produce energy of life, photosynthesis in absorption of light energy from destruction of other parts of the creation (i.e. sun) , etc.]

Romans 8:20-25
20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. NIV

Only God knows why He chose male and female. We could assume "asexual reproduction" did not fit His need or plan for His own procreation with man (i.e. Mary) or God the Father in His wisdom would have used such. He did in wisdom chose to use asexual reproduction in many areas of the present material creation to provide the environment of proper ecological balance for man's survival and growth in a creation now apart from Himself. God as a Trinity has not "reproduced" as far as we know in the past. There are many creations of God spoken about in God's Word to us (living creatures, angels, etc.) yet God created all these for specific purposes. As far as we know man is the only creation God has made with which He has procreated which evidently required this duality of sex.
